God's pleasure

"There is nothing that keeps wicked men at any one moment out of hell, but the mere pleasure of God." -Jonathan Edwards. This thought is so humbling. We are not in hell because he takes pleasure in us, and he takes so much pleasure in us that he killed his only son who was completely perfect, so that we might live with him for eternity.

But what in us does he take pleasure in? We are so sinful! Well, to me this is a mystery. All I know is that he loved us so much that he was willing to pay the ultimate price to save us.

That's a cool but scary thought for the usaved, that "God is the only thing holding us up." But for the saved, it's an awesome thought!

Question: Did God kill his son, or did he let us kill Him? Because the Bible says that the wrath of God was on Jesus, but on the other hand, God didn't murder his son.

I think you kind of answered that question yourself. God didn't murder his son but he did ordain that he would die.

That is all I could come up with for now, does anyone else have any thoughts about this question?

Some additional thoughts on the question asked above...
It is a great question, by the way, and I agree with cj that your question almost answers itself.
God sent Jesus to absorb God's wrath in our place. Without Jesus' sacrifice we would still be separated from God and guilty - deserving His wrath. But the cross was God's plan from the beginning.
This verse is a good answer to the question:
"This Man [Jesus], delivered over by the predetermined plan and foreknowledge of God, you nailed to the cross by the hands of godless men and put Him to death." Acts 2:23
We see that Christ's death was God's plan but He was killed by godless men.
I hope this helped... :)

By the way cj, this is my first time to come across your blog and I have been blessed by it! It is so encouraging to see this generation passionate about the gospel. I will definitely return. Ok if I add you to my blogroll?

God bless,
Kaysie
